The present case study describes the causes for academic repetition in the first and second levels in the Career of Basic Education during the 49th and 50th periods at the Salesian Polytechnic University in the Quito Campus.
The purpose is to expose the reasons behind course repetition. The basis of this research revolves around the following question: which are the causes for students in the career of Basic Education during the 49th and 50th periods at the Salesian Polytechnic University in the Quito Campus for course repetition? This gave a start on bibliographic research on the subject on academic repetition, to further proceed with field work to identify the causes as to why the students repeat courses.
After the data analysis, it was determined that family, academic and economic were decisive factors for course failure and therefore course repetition. In general, personal situations such as social and family, past learning experiences, the absence or lack of previous knowledge, academic skills, teacher’s skills and performance, and the academic environment are causes for academic repetition to take place.
Under the analysis of the data gathered through field research, along with the data and information gathered through bibliographic research, clarifies the factors and their characteristics to show the evidence of how students repeat courses. |
