Sumario: The present research had to purpose evaluate the semen quality of breeding cattle before and after the process of cryopreservation, by endosmosis tests, through the application of three diluents. There was valued the semen of three bulls of 4 years of age, of races: Holstein, Pizan and Brown Swiss, from which 3 samples were extracted by every copy. We evaluated the volume, color, smell, appearance and pH as macroscopic parameters and masal motility, individual motility, vigor, concentration, vitality, morphology, HOST and ORT, as microscopic criteria in the prefreezing analysis. In AndroMed®, Triladyl® and the diluent control ejaculates were diluted and it froze up in straws of 0.5 cc to 196 °C in liquid nitrogen. After 4 days, we proceeded to thaw the straws in distilled water at 37 °C for 30 seconds and microscopic parameters were evaluated. In the prefreezing analysis, Holstein Bull obtained the best results for macroscopic and microscopic assessment, while races Pizan and Brown Swiss, showed lower values but that they are within the acceptable minimum ranges for semen quality prefreezing; and in the postfreezing evaluation, Pizan Bull spermatozoa show greater resistance to the process of cryopreservation, the be diluted in Triladyl ® while the Brown Swiss Bull spermatozoa showed less resistance to cryopreservation when treated with the diluent control; results that were corroborated by endosmosis tests HOST and ORT. Key words: race, semen, diluent, resistance, preservation.
