The small size of the Phoridae together with the taxonomic difficulty offered by this group has led to a shortage of ecological studies, mainly quantitative, despite their biological importance. The present study identified the distribution of the Phoridae family in the Neotropics and describes their geographical location patterns in Ecuador using raster layers of temperature, precipitation and height using ArcGIS. For the case of Ecuador, a predictive model of distribution of the species Apocephalus catholicus was made in relation to 19 environmental variables compiled from WorldClim. The tools for obtaining environmental information and drawing the maps were ArcGIS, MaxENT and Excel, while records of the presence of the Phoridae family in the 17 countries that represent the majority of the Neotropical region were obtained from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility. In Ecuador, 225 species and 69 genera were established, of which the most diverse genera are Apocephalus, Dohrniphora, Melaloncha and Myriophora. However, countries of the Neotropical region such as Brazil, Mexico and Costa Rica have more records of Phoridae species. Data on mean temperature (5,7 to 27 ° C), precipitation (805 to 3904 mm annual) and altitude (180 and 3350 m) were determined in the Costa, Sierra and Amazonia regions where Phoridae species are present. In addition this situation could be similar for species that have similar geographic distributions and have the same ecological requirements. |
