In this paper was made a comparative analysis between two of the most relevant international
codes that are been used in the medium for the design of penstocks in hydroelectric projects,
these codes are ASME code and CECT code. For each code was defined the design proposed,
as well as additional considerations taken into account for a workable design.
Under real condition of the design for a hydroelectric project were determined the thicknesses
required for each code and verifying the stresses generated in the penstocks such as:
circumferential, longitudinal and equivalent stresses, additionally, the Von Mises stress was
verified through computer models that was developed under the finite element method in the
Simulation Mechanical software.
Finally, once have been established the thicknesses of design after the finite element analysis,
it was again verified the stresses generated not only for the design pressure, but also for the
hydrostatic test pressure ensuring that these stresses are more less than the maximum allowable
stresses material determined for each code. |
