The image of indigenous and therefore the activities of Andean culture have been
sentenced to a degrading social representation, which has led to extreme poverty,
exploitation and social inequality. That’s why there have been some social struggles
historical figures that have tried to change the reality in a better way. One of them is
Bishop Leonidas Proaño, whose action was able to exercise some changes in the
Chimborazo province.
But now the province of Chimborazo despite having 32% of Indian population still
presents cultural backwardness of discrimination against indigenous people, limiting
their development, understood from his worldview as equitable human development
in connection with nature. Thus we find llamingueros Intiñan Association, which
through raising lamas and micro enterprise projects has become change option for
many families, communities that makes up the various parishes of the province of
Chimborazo.
The Intiñan association is not only a sample of community development and selfmanagement
but also a process of struggle for the vindication of the image of the
Indian through the lamas. Thus understood the importance of cultural and identity
issues that develops within the lama`s repopulation on the moors.
Products such as shigras, earrings, belts and others made with fiber and bone called
being tangible objects with proper sense give an undeniable cultural value. |
