Sumario: Almost twelve years ago in a little town called Ayora, in the northern region of Pichincha (province of Ecuador) a particular socio politic process had taken place: the “ruralization” process. It has named in that way because of the denomination´s change of this territory, from a rural parish to an urban one. This represented the appearance of a complex social and political tissue that put into debate issues as public space, identity, and the traditional meaning of "development". The central idea of this work is trying to associate the theoreticalcritique against a determinist understanding of the development with the “ruralization” process that take place in Ayora through several testimonies of leaders and key actors that lived the process. Reviewing the works of alternative communication and the communicationdevelopment made in Latin America in the last decades, incorporating the debate about memory and culture construction and, finally, try to reorient the traditional meaning of rural, are impressed in the first pages of this work. After that, we made an historical, economic and demographical diagnostic of Ayora to continue with a narrative reconstruction about the ruralization process. This is the first work ever that looks for counting this fact. The documentary recompilation gave us an unique and amazing view of the process. The testimonies of leaders and organizations constitute in a firsthand font and a kind of evaluation of the past facts. This also provides new debate points, views and discussions about parish style life, values, principles and social action.
