Sumario: This research is about the design of a solar water heating system, this system is basically a direct expansion solar assisted heat pump, its main components are: a bare flat plate evaporator/collector of aluminum which worked at maximum temperatures/pressures of 8.3°C/220.6 kPa at the inlet and 1.4 °C/324.1 kPa at the outlet, a compressor Embraco EM I60HER with 1/6 Hp for low back pressure with evaporation temperatures from -35°C to +15 °C, the main feature according to the manufacturer of this compressor, it can be used for low to high back pressures applications for a maximum pressure at the compressor inlet of 386.79 kPa, but not for systems with capacity greater than 1/2 Hp. A condenser was manufactured with copper tube 6.35 mm in diameter and 0,716 mm in thickness its maximum working temperatures/pressures were 59 °C/1648 kPa at the inlet and 45.7 °C/1517 kPa at the outlet, a thermostatic expansion valve that worked with maximum temperatures/pressures of 45.7 °C/1517 kPa at the inlet and 8.3 °C/220.6 kPa at the outlet. The tests were realized in different weather conditions from which the most representative were taken for the analysis of results, with the system running 75 minutes of each test, maximum water temperature in the tank was 58.6 °C for an average COP of 9.5 and the minimum temperature was 47.7 °C for an average COP of 11.5. The average values for global solar radiation and water temperature were 698.77  2  W m  and 45.38 °C respectively, with minimum values of 376.01  2  W m  and 56.1 °C at 60 min of the test which initial water temperature was 32.3 °C, up to maximum values of 1111.86  2  W m  and 54.5 °C of the test which initial water temperature was 27.7 °C.
