Sumario: The agriculture has always been an activity that hasn´t offered a steady market. Demand has an uncertain behavior, which is why the small producers have seen in dairy cattle a good opportunityto have work for all the familyDuring the last 6 years, small producers have followed an ascendant productive behavior, by January 2009 a yearly production of 500 000 liters/day was incremented. Out of what has been seen, the corn (Zea mays) of the Ecuador sierra region, is one of the most important crops due to the large amounts of land that are destined for its sowing and its role as a basic component of the rural population diet, to supplement the bovine diet in summer, when there isn´t enough foliage for their food.
