This research paper focuses on the social network Facebook as a space for socialization and identity construction in urban young students of 9th grade of high school from Colegio Amazonas in Quito, Ecuador.
Information and communication technologies (ICT) and the social networks included in them, such as popular and fashionable Facebook today, are fostering big changes in the mental frames and the practices of socialization, communication, and interaction in human beings in all cultures and ages. For that reason the objective of this research is centered in figuring how those new processes for socialization and identity construction in media-mediated young people are occurring. Two field investigation tools were devised for such an end: a poll for students consisting in 38 questions, and a questionnaire for school teachers, consisting of 24 questions. |
