Sumario: In this project was made an analysis of chromium removal by action of the microalga Chlorella sp. immobilized on alginate beads. The removal of chromium with the application of microalgae reduces the concentration of this metal of the environment and therefore avoids the side effects that are generated by the accumulation of this element (Flathman, 1998). For the analysis of the chromium absorption process is performed by subjecting sodium alginate beads without Chlorella sp, as control treatment, and sodium alginate beads with Chlorella sp. (25X106) in a dichromate solution, with aeration for 80 minutes with three different concentrations (mg/L): 0, 10, 50 and 100, and in turn a randomized complete block design, three replicates was established, from which samples were obtained of an aqueous solution every 10 minutes that were measured in the atomic absorption spectrophotometer with direct aspiration using air-acetylene flame with chrome lamp. In the treatment of alginate beads with Chlorella sp. with an initial concentration of 10 ppm of Cr a removal of chromium from 61% was given being a higher percentage than the control treatment. In the tests with an initial concentration of 50 ppm, 51% of chromium was removed obtaining a greater percentage of removal in the control treatment and with an initial concentration of 100 ppm a removal of chromium of 60% in both the treatment treatment and in the treatment with Chlorella sp.
