This study presents a methodology for the design of an air quality monitoring system, composed of a monitoring network in urban areas affected by the emission of mobile and fixed sources in the canton Mejía. As a result, a guide was obtained to select the sites where the samplers will be implemented.
This work was developed in the following stages: first the monitoring sites were pre-selected, then criteria were formulated to determine their final location, the criteria used were: vehicular flow, safety, influence of other sources, accessibility, distance to obstacles and registration historical data.
Based on the results obtained, the implementation of 10 monitoring stations is proposed, of which 9 will be passive and an automatic station to form the air quality monitoring network.
With the implementation of the monitoring network, the authorities will be able to have information on the deterioration of air quality and plan actions necessary to prevent or reduce the consequences of such deterioration.
It is intended that this work becomes a proposal for the implementation of the air quality monitoring network in the canton of Mejía and encourages it to be adopted by various municipal GADs as a decision-making measure on air resource management. It is also the first contribution for future research studies on the implementation of atmospheric monitoring systems with the aim of reducing air pollution. |
