Sumario: Establish the importance of forests about of mitigating climate change through the carbon stored in vegetation and soil, implies to discover the dynamics of these ecosystems and the functions of plant species. In order to generate knowledge’s of the above it has been seen necessary this study; which includes the quantification of forest volume and the carbon stored by the forest of Kutuku Scientific Station, located in the parish Sevilla de Oro, canton Macas, province Morona Santiago. So, was used the process of the “Field Manual Forest National Assessment of Ecuador”, were used regression models with variables obtained in field and were considered the criteria of the IPCC. As a result, it is established that in 10 ha of forest, forest volume is 5 915,4 m3, represented mostly by family Burseraceae with 166,31 m3/ha and the specie Protium sagotianum March also with 166,31 m3/ha. The amount of carbon stored by the forest is 2 129,5 t, where the Burseraceae family and the specie Protium sagotianum March contain more with 59,87 t/ha each one. The CO2 captured was 7 815, 4 t, represented mainly by the family Burseraceae with 219,73 t/ha and the specie Protium Sagotianum March whose value is repeated. According to data from diameter at breast height and height of the trees, it appears that the forest is in a state of regeneration.
