The "chulla quiteño" is an archetypal popular origin character that has survived to the present day due meanings construction and reconstruction process that have generated a collective imaginary variety identity-related ideas of Quito. However, this anti-hero and critical actor change in the early 20th-century Quito icon context, is produced by three turns in their role: their media exposure and literary, the symbolic death of the "chulla" as the subject and his image use as popular culture representative in Quito municipality communication strategies during the years 1988-1992 and 2009-2014, in Rodrigo Paz and Augusto Barrera mayoralties, respectively. |
