This article shows how the collaboration of Chile as Not permanent Member of the Security
Council of United Nations, during the period of two years 2003-2004, was motivated by an
active participation in the debate about the War of Iraq. This meant diverse political, social and
economic challenges that came to promote the image that had Chile in the exterior from that
first period of two years in which he was a member of this Security Council in 1952 and which,
absolutely one did not want to lose. In this context, the aim of this article is, first, to underline
the potential and the role of the Chilean Government before a scene where the positions every
time were becoming more radical more; and secondly, to analyze how the multilateralism
was the mechanism to continuing before what Chile qualified as a war chosen more than a
necessary war in relation to some of the major warlike and humanitarian conflicts of beginnings
of the 21st century. For it, there were analyzed primary sources of the State Department of
Chile and opposite sources of local press, The Mercury and The Nation newspaper. |
