Sumario: The present paper analyzes the concepts of electronic document and electronic signature with regard to United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Carriage of Goods Wholly or Partly by Sea. First, is exposed how, due the virtual market, is generated a technology convergence that creates a necessary legal convergence. Subsequently, the highlights of the Rotterdam Rules are emphasized, drawing attention to the concepts of electronic document and electronic signature referred there. In this sense, a definition of electronic document is performed, stressing the importance of his evidence admissibility. Finally, electronic signature is conceptualized, calling attention on his authentication value.
