Sumario: In order to have an integrated tourist development it is necessary to elaborate appropriatepolicies and associated to the cultural, political, economics, and social reality of a country. In the State of Mato Grosso, the federal programs of tourist development are stimulating only punctual actions from governments; which makes that the recognition of tourism as an activity that requires public investment and path definitions to lead public socio-spatial actions is not yet clear in the diverse sectors of the public administration. It is necessary to bring together and analyze the public policies to develop tourism in Mato Grosso. To do this, we collected bibliography, made visits to public institutions, collected tourism policies in the state of Mato Grosso and made a scientific analysis. By this methodology, we reached results verifying in the State Policy for Tourism or MT-20 and the Law 8.431, that refers to the development of the State of Mato Grosso, that there exists a structure and strategies, with goals that really view the Mato Grosso development by way of tourism. Unhappily, those policies have been completely understood by the people and neither put into practice in the correct way. There is a great luck of information among the tourist entities as well as in the promotion of tourism, which according to the National Policy for Tourism, should be ascribed in the sectoral policies, but even there, there is a lack of articulation in those policies to allow tourism to contribute most significantly to the development of Mato Grosso. This state contains a great variety of natural resources which when preserved and well managed may become great propulsors of tourismdevelopment and by that way to the whole state of Mato Grosso.
