Sumario: Early childhood caries (ECC) is a common chronic disease among the children that can be developed as soon as teeth erupt. Despite its high occurrence, ECC is a preventable disease. Although the pediatric dentist is the specialist more responsible for the promotion of oral health in the children, there are few scientific studies on this topic in the pediatric journals. The risk should be valued early and special attention should be given on the education in oral health in pregnant women and infants since the epidemic data reveal that the most effective boarding stops in control of this entity is based on the prevention and not in the restorative treatment. The purpose of this paper is to discuss some important aspects on early childhood caries and ways to prevent it.
