The present paper evaluates the diverse career choices of a journalist in three problematic fields: competence and trades, agencies of validation and the dynamics of transformation. The article explores the implications of a qualitative redefinition of a journalist’s role -from being a mere journalist-intermediary to a journalist-mediator. The journalist is thus seen as one who assumes the asymmetries as well as the social and cultural inequalities as the basis of his profession while allowing him to be actively involved in the construction of a democratic society. Finally, it is argued that journalists should develop a more critical and inquisitive attitude in the light of their redefined role and the media’s increasing use of technology. |
