Sumario: This essay explain the problem of dropouts in rural schools of Colombia, analyzing theoretical elements that allow understanding the historical origin of desertion and abandonment of educational institutions, placing research in “Institución Educativa Rural Departamental Chimbe” located in the municipality of Chimbe – Cundinamarca, with five risk factors: family, which includes subfactors associated with economic, cultural, situational and family dynamics; school, academic, and school disciplinary sub-factors; student, where its sub-factors associated with physical and emotional health of the student and his vision of education; social environment, comprising subfactors friends, boyfriend - spouse, neighbor - family and mass media; and Access, in sub-factors which include transport, student food, supplies and special needs. Finally, situate the importance and the commitment to the performance of professional social worker in the rural educational framework.
