Sumario: Orthokeratology is a subspecialty of contact lens research, dealing with the adaptation of gas permeable contact lenses, whose aim is to temporarily reduce visual defects. It proved to be an effective treatment for myopia and low astigmatisms, as well as for hypermetropic errors. This article presents a literature review in databases and books that describe and analyze the advances on how orthokeratology lenses work on the ocular surface of hypermetropic patients over time, on orthokeratology designs in hypermetropia, as well as on the parameters for the efficacy of this procedure, and its contraindications and risks. Thus, it provides further information for visual and ocular health professionals on the importance of orthokeratology in hypermetropic errors as a method of correction, as well as on other approaches that can meet the visual needs of patients.
