Sumario: Process mining is the discipline that aims at discovering, monitoringand improving business processes by analyzing event logs recordedby an information system. In this paper, the evolution of the conceptsinvolved in process mining is presented along with the analysis of threecase studies in order to understand the critical success factors in its implementation. Starting from this point, the future challenges that mightbe present in its application on organizations are discussed along withthe required research to provide solutions to the industry in a disciplinethat has been considered as the most promising in the field of BusinessProcess Management.
