The importance of hip fractures is given not only by their high frequency, but also the associated mortality, morbidity and high economic and social cost.Aim: To determine the functionality of the individual after suffering a fall and consequently a hip fracture. Methods: Prospective observational study analytical. Results: 44 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included. The average age was 81.8 SD ± 8; 59 % were women. Of the total of 44 patients revealed that 13 patients were independent, 7 were enrolled with mild dependence, 10 with moderate dependence and 13 had a moderate dependence, and one patient had total dependence. As for the nutritional assessment, it was found that of all the patients studied 14 had a satisfactory nutritional status, 24 had risk of malnutrition, and only 6 had malnutrition. The risk of having some degree of functional dependence on admission in patients with hip fracture, if you are not properly nourished is 6.67 times (OR: 6.67; 95 % CI: 1; 60-27, 83; p<0.000) than if the patients had adequate nutritional status. Conclusions: Our elderly population with hip fracture has a degree of independence poor compared with other series, because a large percentage of these mild and moderate dependence are located and there is a direct relationship enters functional status and nutritional status to income as noted. |
