Chronic pain is a frequent condition in general population. Treatment includes pharmacological and non-pharmacological techniques. Despite this, many people suffer pain on a daily basis. Development in the field of electricity and magnetic and electric waveforms allow their use in medicine. When applied to the tissue, radiofrequency alters the molecular structure of cells. This can alter the function of pain conducing nerve fibers. The following review is about the origins of radiofrequency and its current application in chronic pain treatment. |
