Sumario: With the aim to know the psychometric characteristics of a Spanish version of the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory – PANSI, it was developed an instrumental study. It was required the participation of 1284 students of 4 high schools and 2 universities of San Juan de Pasto city. The exploratory factor showed a bi-factor structure, what explained 64% of variance. The first factor corresponded to negative suicidal thoughts, while the second included protective thoughts against suicide. The total scale and the sub-scales had high levels of internal consistency and a good construct validity. It was demonstrated that PANSI can be used in the suicidal behavior’s prevention and intervention environments, and particularly in the suicidal ideation problem.
