Sumario: Violent behavior are those in which the individual intends to cause harm to another or others, manifested through aggressive actions such as hitting, fighting and swearing, etc. in society they have been created and maintained beliefs about people who have a mental illness, since mental illness directly associated with violent behavior, thus establishing that these are dangerous, thus discrimination, stigmatization and rejection are generated to these people, so it becomes a necessary problem to face. This research aims to describe the characteristics of violent behavior in institutionalized persons with mental illness through the application of the risk scale violence Plutchik patients institutionalized in a mental health unit in Cartagena, therefore this study is quantitative approach, descriptive, not experimentally cross design with a non-probabilistic sample. The results of this research demonstrate violent behavior allow these people , 75% of the evaluated individuals at risk for violent behavior and 25 % have no risk, such behaviors are characterized by striking a person who is not familiar with assaulting objects , easily get angry and attack in a fight
