Sumario: Objective. The general purpose of the present investigation was to investigate the meaning attributed to the conjugal separation of their parents, three young adolescents living in the city of Cali. In this sense, the meaning attributed to the separation - in terms of losses and gains - in the personal, family and social domains was analyzed, the transformations of these meanings attributed during and after the separation of the parents were analyzed, and finally, The influence of the dominant meanings of the micro-contexts was identified, on the proper attribution of meaning to the separation. Method. It was a qualitative and descriptive study, with an interpretive and transversal character. It worked as a case study, and was based on semi-structured interviews to three young adolescents who lived in the republican district of Israel and caney of the city of Cali. Results. Both losses and gains were observed. Likewise, it was found that the areas where initial losses were greatest were the same areas where, after a time, gains were realized, these were: the personal area, followed by the family area and the social area. It was observed that time becomes an important factor for the re-signification of this experience, because only after a time, they managed to mean that decision as something less painful, warning on the contrary greater gains than losses, which accounts for A transformation of meanings during and after the rupture. It is also concluded that there were several aspects that allowed this transformation in relation to the meanings of losses to profits of this experience, these are: time; The subjective position of the mother; The relationship of dysfunction in the marital dyad (cases of violence and marital abuse) and support networks that in this case were the maternal family and friends.
