Sumario: It is very important to recognize the incidence of discomfort and suffering at work in order not to ignore the ways individuals are affected by their jobs. To such effect, some of the papers that have significantly contributed, although from different perspectives, to the development of the topic we are studying, were taken as reference. For this reason, the objectives of this research were: To analyze the causes, to identify the symptoms and to recognize the defense strategies perceived by a group of workers holding senior positions in large and medium-sized companies in relation to discomfort and suffering at work. It was a descriptive, qualitative and crosssectional study. The instrument used was the semi-structured in-depth interview. On the other hand, this study comprised nine workers, including men and women, holding senior positions in large and medium-sized companies in the city of Cali. The results of this study were the following: On the one hand, it revealed that the relationship with the other, the work-family relationship and the intensification of work were the most predominant factors in the causes of discomfort and suffering. On the other hand, the most predominant symptoms were stress and body fatigue. Finally, the defense strategies observed were talking with others and the relationship with the family.
