The present work aims to the technical study of a drinking water system in the rural
community of Cotama, located in the Otavalo canton, Imbabura Province, which
complies with parameters of quantity and quality, according to valid Ecuadorian
norms. Since the current supply infrastructure does not adequately cover the needs of
the population terms of quantity and quality, has served its working life and is
dysfunctional in several ways, it must therefore be rehabilitated or replaced. Socioeconomic
censuses were carried out, along with topographic information surveying,
characterization of existing structures and available slopes, feasibility analysis,
among others.
Two design alternatives are proposed, where the most suitable one comprises
catchment, pipeline conduction, two pump systems, a modular water treatment plant,
two water reservoirs and two distribution networks. Each component was designed
according to the Ecuadorian regulations for drinking water supply systems in rural
areas by National Water Secretary (SENAGUA, by its Spanish acronym). The
implementation of this project will allow the provision of drinking water within the
study area, in an adequate quantity and quality, which implies the improvement of
life quality of the community inhabitants, the social benefit, allows improving the
productivity. |
