The speech analysis of Quito heteronormed masculinity as a determinant of the
strong discrimination against the transvestites based on three lifetime stories, is a
research that response to a theoretical and human need.
In the first chapter, the speech and communication concepts that will establish the
basis for the development of the text are exposed. Thereafter the Critical Speech
Analysis is proposed as an important investigation tool just as the gender and
masculinity issues are described and the importance of these concepts in the
heteronormed societies as the quiteña are explored.
Next, as a second chapter, the gender fights contextualization and the since-the-pastcentury
conquests achived by the TILGB’s groups are presented. This is an historic
data compilation about the legislative events and the battles fought to accomplish
them.
For the third and final chapter, three lifetime stories – Estefania, Maria José and
Romina – contribute with justificatory meaning for the theory propounded in the
previous chapters, exposing the reality of the discrimination that the society perform
against the transvestites in Quito. The analysis of the influence of the heteronormed
masculinity as a reigning speech, in the discriminatory practices against transvestites
in Quito has made evident the vulnerability that this specific group suffers. |
