At the beginning of the twentieth century a phenomenon that arrived and transformed the
everyday life of the inhabitants of Quito, would be the advent of cinema, arriving to
become over the years not only in a cultural manifestation, with multiple social dynamics
around its exhibition. It transformed and contributed in the configuration of the capital in
the last century.
This research proposes to reflect on the value that keep the old spaces of film exhibition in
historic center, by keep the memory of social and dynamic processes that occurred in or
around them. Moreover, its scope covers linearly different historical moments in the field:
international, national and local.
The center of the city hosted a significant number of cinemas and theaters, including the
oldest in the capital. Because of its historical, cultural and architectural value have great
importance. They gave meaning to social reality and their analysis also reflects the history
of the city. |
