Sumario: New educational scenarios require teachers that are not limited only to transmit knowledge to their students, but from the scientific rigor of the educational disciplines address the problems that delivers on their educational practices and to pursue the respective solutions. This research has the overall aim to make an approach to the process of acquisition and mastery of research skills of the students of the School of Education at the Salesian University in Quito Headquarters in relation to what was stated in institutional documents. For this investigation we resort to mixed approach that integrates quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The instruments used are surveys, interviews and document analysis. The data are analyzed from the pedagogical principles declared in institutional documents of the Salesian University.
