Sumario: This thesis aims to design and build a team of submerged arc welding. At present the implementation of equipment in the ability to meet the research needs of students for all the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom are applied in practice in laboratories is necessary. To study it has been established this work into chapters detailing in each the most relevant to the design and construction of the unit. A collection of concepts and terms used in the process of submerged arc welding, process variables as are voltage, amperage, welding speed among others, advantages and disadvantages of it is presented. Different options for performing the process, applied to industry, in this case a flat horizontal SAW welding equipment was designed to provide an easy understanding of the process to students is analyzed. The design of mechanical elements of the team is contemplated as: power system, using engine selection, determining the formulas and conditions suitable for machine design based on criteria of different authors. Tests of variation of parameters of welding steel plates ASTM A-36 such as voltage, amperage and speed welding was performed by checking the information gathered throughout the thesis.
