Sumario: The objective of this research is to design and build an intermittent solar cooling system using an ammonia-water solution, where the ammonia performs the work of the refrigerant and the water as an absorbent fluid for a capacity of 1320 J / min, which. It is developed with a scientific methodology that consists of a systematic process focused on establishing adequate parameters for the design and construction of the equipment. Therefore, the thermodynamic analysis of the system is mainly carried out based on the environmental conditions of the city of Quito. The system was designed with a solar collector with a catchment area of 0,5 m2 and whose efficiency is 6 %, this element operates during two cycles, in the morning as a generator and at night as an absorber. On the other hand, the pressures that were obtained on the low side is 69,91 psia, meanwhile, that for the high side a pressure of 154,74 psia was achieved, and thus achieve a storage temperature of 7,5 °C. Therefore, an operating coefficient of 0,64 acceptable in absorption systems was obtained, where binary mixtures are used.
