This research was conducted in CIVABI laboratories, in the Salesian Polytechnic University. In the first phase of this study, a consortium of the Chlorophyta microalgae Chlorella and Scenedesmus, from samples collected from San Pedro-Ecuador river was identified, of which the biomass was obtained under appropriate conditions until to get a cell density of 34.0 X106cel/mL, in batch culture. In the second phase, the process of treatability lasted 18 days and the experimental design consisted of the following treatments with three replicates: T0 (Water + microalgae), T1 (Water + Nitrate + Microalgae + phosphate), T2 (Water + Nitrates + phosphate), T3 (Water + Nitrite + Microalgae + phosphate) and T4 (Water + Nitrite + phosphate).
The percentage removals of the five parameters studied after the treatment were: between 95-100% NO3, NO2 between 95-100%, between 9-42% BOD, COD between 10- 31%. Therefore, the removal efficiency was determined especially in NO3, NO2, using the consortium, however there were not significant differences between treatments. With this study it was determined the great importance of microalgae in wastewater treatment and in association with the bacterial flora can increase their capacity to remove contaminants such as nitrites, nitrates among others, becoming a low-cost alternative with a high efficiency in bioremediation processes, besides the biomass obtained can be used for other biotechnological purposes. |
