Sumario: A maturity model is a framework used to evaluate business processes or certain aspects of the organizations, since it represents a path to a way of doing business more and more organized and systematic. It can be used to measure the level of current maturity of a certain aspect of an organization significantly, allowing interested parties to clearly identify strengths and points of improvement, and therefore prioritize what to do for achieve higher levels of maturity. In the context of the IT a maturity model helps: manage investment through the efficient and innovative use of the IT, maintain the risk related with IT at acceptable levels, to optimize the cost of technology and services, etc. The lack of dissemination of different maturity models related to information technology has made that certain organizations face a problem in managing their IT, since they have ignorance of what they mean levels of maturity, their way of determination and the utility that they have in the business context, resulting in not is you have the technological environment, which can cause reduction of competitiveness. This article is a review of the evolution and history of maturity models to discern its nature, subsequent raises a proposal of classification categories of maturity models related to IT. The information collected from different models is classified into three categories which include: maturity models of IT, maturity models that measure a part of you and maturity models affecting the TI. Rated once IT maturity models are identified and establishing comparative criteria to identify utility, scope and approach. Eventually becomes an analysis on the reality of use and diffusion of the different IT models of maturity and success stories of them are analyzed.
