This photojournalism shows in detail the theoretical and field research about the problem of cutting of the braid in teenagers Otavalo city. With the aim of showing what factors they become threatening for Indigenous culture or Kichwa Otavalo. The results achieved translate this in a photo-reportage prepared based on the information obtained.
In this paper the problem of cutting the braid is posed with the following approaches: Identity and culture, aspects of semiotics, influence of the mass media, the hypodermic needle theory, power of Western culture and its stereotypes and multiculturalism. It takes into account specifically, the traditional dress of Kichwa Otavalo´s culture, family ties and the problem among adolescents.
The research begins the arrangement of Cabildo Kichwa Otavalo on cutting the braid under 18 years. It will be have a focus group of sixth graders of Jacinto Collahuazo high school, the institution will support in the research process.
In the research developing, it will inquire the cultural history of the Kichwa Otavalo indigenous and changes that they have emerged over time because of some social factors such as discrimination, migration, fashion and detachment of culture inquire, to demonstrate how this has been inserted in their traditions, beliefs and ancient thought.
The focus of the research is to demonstrate that the mass media influence the physical and mental change of teenagers, putting their identity into crisis, generating interest in other cultures and fashions that they impose on society.
Finally, the research presents testimonies Jacinto Collahuazo high school teenagers, who have held and who have cut the braid, saying the reasons for their decisions. It will be evident that the interviewed teenagers well known the meaning of the braid even though many of them have chosen court. |
