Sumario: The disproportionate increment in the demand of electrical energy produces failures in the electrical distribution systems, a situation that requires the engineer to generate solutions through efficient and effective methods to minimize or even eliminate the failures caused. In this regard, and taking as a reference this conceptualization, the following work is focused on establishing the theoretical and practical foundations for the localization of faults in distribution systems, using the model of the IEEE of thirteen (13) Nodes by adding to it the process of distributed generation which will effectively determine the failure within the system in a quick response time. This was used for the measure of the effective values in prefailure, failure of voltage and current using the methodology of Rattan Das which, in principle, proposes how to start the detection and identification of the type of failure. From this foundation it is estimated the section that is in communication failure between the nodes X and X+ 1 and then the system with branches becomes a radial system equivalent, to then define its type of failure by successive comparisons of the circuit current throughout the system.
