The present investigation approach the theme of a urban tribe that was born in the city of Quito, around a martial and sports practice. With this new forms of interaction between subjects are born and new ways of communicating mediated by sports practice. This study is carried out from a communicative perspective, based on cultural studies, also on audiovisual ethnography, thus generating a documentary video about the subculture of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Quito.
It is based on the notions of culture, its process of construction and mixture, seen from modernity and how these developed with different phenomenoms in Latin America, for the purposes of this study in Brazil and Ecuador. Hence, the importance of using authors of Latin American theories of communication where the issues of culture, identity, belonging, globalization, deterritorialization and cultural hybridization are handled.
The study is concretized through participant observation and in-depth interviews of different Brazilian Jiu-jitsu academies in Quito such as Alliance, Cicero Costha and Gracie Humaitá. Specifying the investigation in a documentary where it reflects the urban tribe of jiu jiteros in Quito, its practices, problems and symbolism that they join them. |
