This work analyses a new type of communication between young people that appears with massive penetration of internet. This new language is called “neo-expressions” and is used in social network like Facebook or Twitter. Neo-expressions are so popular due to the fact that young people keep connected anywhere and anytime with their smartphones, portable computers, or other devices. In addition, new ways of communication emerged with telecommunications an internet era for example short messages or instant messaging applications like whatsapp, viber.
This new language takes form from necessity of a fast and effective way to communicate what people feels, so neo-expressions create a fast way of writing and express emotions using symbols or abbreviations of language that saves time and creates trends, life styles and new thinking patterns. Also, neo-expressions creates new communication environments where people can create social and emotional links through virtual social networks.
Neo-expressions brings issues to communication because introduces modifications to writing language and varies formal way of writing. Neo-expressions omits or contracts letters to create abbreviations of words for example LOL that means “Laughing Out Loud” or symbols like that express happiness. |
