The present study shows a brief review of traditional medicine through history, along with the importance that it has nowadays. Traditional medicine has been part of the health systems of civilizations and societies through several centuries, proving its validity. These study shows three medicinal positions that govern the world, the first is the conventional orthodox medicine, also called West medicine. The second is the oriental medicine with its highest representative the traditional Chinese medicine, and finally the traditional medicine of the different villages in the world. Being the last two who have set precedents for global organizations as recommended Complementary Traditional Medicine. In Latin America traditional medicine has greater force and presence due to the lack of adequate health systems, or inaccessibility to them. In Ecuador the presence of traditional medicine has been highlighted throughout its history, remaining effective until the actuality. However, the neoliberal cultural development has undermined their cultural practices and so much more the traditional medical practices, considered in the past, as the unique alternative to access health. Consequently radio dramas have been developed, to enhance and promote traditional Andean medicine, their ancient plants and also the ancestral healing processes belonging to the Andean world, addressing issues of great value not only for indigenous communities but for Ecuadorians in general. |
