Sumario: |
The tree tomato (Solanum betaceum Cav) is a fruit native to Ecuador, appreciated
and remarkable performance, with yields ranging from 60 to 80 tons per hectare /
year in peak condition now constituting a crop of great economic importance.
However since the eighties has reduced its profitability by 90%, mainly due to pests
and diseases, with anthracnose or chicken eye (Colletotrichum acutatum) the main
constraint and in many cases the cause of leaving fallow mainly for economic losses
resulting product by destroying the harvest.
This disease occurs in the fruits of any age, where initially circular black spots occur,
sunken, sharp edges, which increase rapidly in size and consistency become dry, and
then cover almost all the fruit and the plant finally mummified or fall to the ground,
which can cause losses between 50 and 100% of production. |
