Sumario: This study seeks to define the current state of organizational systems and the level of community management of water in the Water Management Boards that provide drinking water to communities in the area of influence of Pesillo-Imbabura Project; and relate the level of organization and management of Water Management Boards with the quality and availability of water distributed through water systems. To achieve the objectives of the study two files were developed to collect information in the study area: one to identify the organizational systems of Water Management Boards, and the second to identify administrative processes performed within JAAPs, by applying the records information related to the social and structural organization of water management boards, the tariff system, management of the money raised, number of system users, flow allowed for human consumption, documentation of meetings, protection of sources of water, and the division organizational and policy of the boards. After analyzing the data collected in the communities the Water Management Boards studied were ranked in three levels of community management of water: deficient, regular and good; this in order to compare levels of management and organization of Water Management Boards with water quality and availability of their systems, obtaining as outstanding result that the quantity and quality of water in the system does not depend entirely on community management of the Water Management Boards, that is not always a good management ensures that water is plentiful and of good quality, as it depends on other factors such as the type, quality and protection of sources of drinking water is taken. As an example you have to Water Management Board "El Abra" that despite having a poor management system has good water quality and sufficient to fully cover the demand for water system users every day of the year. In the last chapter of this study a guide training is given to users and leaders of community water systems in the area of Pesillo-Imbabura project, providing guidelines of duties and tasks for leaders and models related documentation administration and financial management boards, this information may serve as a basis for future training processes in communities by UPS or local and national authorities in the project area and in other areas where resource management water is given through community management.
