Sumario: A distribution system is the part of the power system that is closest to the user, within which primary feeders which must run continuously if possible without interruption will therefore should have high levels of reliability and security, This study troubleshoot it effective and fast, in order to restore service as quickly as possible is necessary. In this work the Relief algorithm for diagnosing faults in distribution systems is presented, the method performed is based on the collection of data voltages and currents of the lines in the distribution system which will be used to define the most important characteristics within the algorithm performed and achieve classification and types of failure, structuring the document is given as follows: the state of the art project, the literature revised presenting mathematical models and algorithms used in the diagnosis of failures such as neural networks, wavelet, methods using the parameters of the lines, then the Relief algorithm is presented, detailing its main characteristics and the different types that have been created, such as simulation model made a distribution system arises in Power Factory, which conducted testing algorithm to detect a 2 fault in the system were made, the algorithm will detect if there is a failure conduct a classification of different types fails, then identify the phases affected by such failure, the results be expressed in graphical and tabular form, making sure that the proposed method works properly and can be applied to any system, finally the conclusions and future work resulting from the research are presented.
