Under capitalism the labor force is a commodity, and the value of its use corresponds to the
total work time. The employee provides his or her ability to work and agrees under contract
to carry out a necessary task in exchange for a salary. The time spent working should be
assessed by the employer, and the best conditions for production and reproduction should be
offered to the employee. These working conditions affect the family environment.
It is in this way that the methods of production and the conditions involving quality of life
play an important role in human development, and state of issues such as physical and mental
health are essential, since the prevention of factors originating from psychosocial risks enters
into conflict with the principal tendencies of management strategies as regards work
organization and the production of goods or services. The division between conception and
execution of work, reduction of staff, increase in the pace and quantity of work, strategies
that develop competition between coworkers, the increase of availability requirements
involving work conditions (geographic location, shift, schedule, assignment), and unstable
employment do not promote an adequate working environment for combating these job risks
that are psychosocial in origin; instead they can cause sicknesses and disorders in the
employee. |
