Sumario: Design is a field of research in social sciences, while its methods feeds the production in design. This object-subject relationship has been intensified with the development of both disciplines, although the relationship has not been equally evident for both fields. Social sciences and humanities have explored it more from visual studies and material culture, while in some cases design has appealed to the social sciences for inquiries before the creation of a piece. To see the ways in which design and research intersect, this paper addresses the creation as well the analysis of material and visual culture, using as case studies research processes on fashion, mass and popular culture. The article ends with a reflection about the theoretical and conceptual approach that can be useful in the research process, pointing the concept of “nice” as a methodological possibility
