The water footprint as an indicator or management tool estimates the amount of fresh water needed to produce a good or service, for that reason, may adopt measures for the reasonable use of water. Water is an essential factor of production for agriculture, creating a strong demand, is why should considerably improve resource efficiency, considering the Tahiti limes (Citrus latifolia) ranks third within species citrus grown in Colombia, it is important to know your water footprint.
In this paper the water footprint for two productive years of Tahiti limes in three orchards CORPOICA was evaluated. climatological information provided was collected by CORPOICA, who got it from the nearest crop (some CORPOICA own stations) weather stations, as well as information of agrochemicals for crops.
Blue, green and gray component: the methodology proposed by Arjen Hoekstra in its publication The Water Footprint Manual asessment where the water footprint corresponds to the sum of the 3 components checked. The reference evapotranspiration (ET) and effective rainfall (Pe) is calculated with the CROPWAT 8.0 software developed by FAO. The green and blue evapotranspiration under standard conditions (ETC), the use of green and blue water of the crop (UAC) and water footprints green, blue and gray were calculated were calculated using the methods developed by Arjen Hoekstra.
The results showed a higher total water footprint for two productive years in Tahiti limes CI Freedom to 1,285 m3 / kg followed the farm located in Lebrija Emerald to 1,110 m3 / Kg and the CI Palmira with 1,047 m3 / kg. In the garden of CI La Libertad, the green water footprint represents 54.251%, the blue water footprint 0%, and the gray water footprint 45.748% of the total water footprint for this location. CI Palmira in the garden, the green water footprint represents 31.803%, the blue water footprint 0%, the gray water footprint 68.196% of the total water footprint for this location. Finally the garden of the Finca La Esmeralda, the green water footprint represents 30.575%, the blue water footprint 11,228%, the gray water footprint 58.196% of the total water footprint for this location. The percentage of 0% blue water footprint represents no irrigation.
According to the results of strategies or alternatives to make better use the water resources and the improvement of Tahiti lime production process were made. |
