The present research had as objectives to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial activity of the essential oil of Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) against Propionibacterium acnes, bacteria that causes acne, to make a lotion and to evaluate the effectiveness in vitro and in vivo of the lotion formulated from this oil.
The essential oil obtained from the leaves of the selected species, using a hydrodistillation system with steam entrainment; with the oil obtained miscibility tests were performed and determination of physical constants such as: relative density and refractive index. The chemical composition was determined by Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC / MS), standing out in the chromatogram spectral signals in the elucidation of: α-citral (Geranial) β - Citral (Neral) and β - pinene. |
