Sumario: This present work had the aim to identity the characteristics of young students in the Unidad Educativa del Milenio Cacique Tumbalá. Specifically, this investigation focused on identifying the traditional values in indigenous youth people and analyzing the influence of the institution on them. To achieve the objectives of the investigation, this study was specified to the three main actors: students, teachers and authorities, and parents. One of the main results of the investigation, it is the evidence of the continuity of cultural traditions in young people, this was evident in youth participation in the rite named “Misa en honor a la lluvia en Rumi Cruz” and the massive participation of young people (migrants and non-migrants) in commemoration of the Day of the Dead, when representing the evocation of life and death present in the Andean world. After the conversation with the young people, some of them affirm their auto identification as indigenous, and they appreciated the increase accessibility to education in this population. Also, this investigation analyzed, the influence on youth identity by the preponderance of mestizos teachers in the Unidad Educativa del Milenio. On the side of parents, this work evidenced several contradictions. For them it is very important the presence of an educational institution with technology and adequate infrastructure that will allow a better professionalization but which, in turn, affects the construction of new youth identities.
