Since million years ago, mankind has tried to survive on the planet, doing different activities to satisfy their necessities such as: hunting, fishing, gathering food, etc. These needs expanded to produce an excessive consumption of natural resources and the increase in the number of processes in their activities to improve the quality of their products, thereby generating significant economic activity.
Within the canton Mejía, industrial activity has increased in recent decades, improving tourism and the economy. However this industrialization has begun to pollute excessively due to toxic and hazardous components that the industries use in their processes. It brings environmental problems and damages to the health of people.
For that reason we elaborated the Environmental Impact Study process of the industries from the Aloag and Machachi parishes, in order to measure the level of environmental impact using the methodology of Identifying Environmental Impacts, it is why the cause-effect matrix was used.
In addition, to complement the study, the international standard industrial classification (CIIU), which is a classification of economic activities according to their production processes, was applied.
The catalog of national environmental categorization (CCAN), which has a categorization of industrial activities according to their environmental impact and risk, was used too.
Using these methodologies, we could measure the environmental impact that produces each industry in order to propose alternatives and solutions to mitigate the environmental pollution of the canton Mejía. |
