Numerous plants contain moisturizers, nutrients, antioxidants, softeners and stimulants
active either in the cortex, in the leaves, in the roots or the grains. Advances in extraction
and evaluation of assets plants have been truly remarkable in the last decade.
The 'Agrocos' project, funded with 2.9 million euros by the EU, is researchingall the plant
world to find out natural substitutes for synthetic ingredients currently used in cosmetics.
The specie Cordia lutea L. (Muyuyo, original name of the littoral zone, Peninsular
Province of Guayas). It is located within the shrubs that usually bloom in normal
conditions in warm weather. They are the areas with more or less smooth, free of cold and
saline winds.
The muyuyo has many medicinal properties from the flowers, leaves, and fruits. It is
known that fruit gumit has been used us“acacia”, and Hairspray.
Based on the different research that have been done on the chemical composition of the
Muyu’s, we found that is unknown, therefore the importance was born and raised in
performing the first phytochemical study, identifying secondary metabolites such as:
lactones, catechins, reducing sugar (helps to loose weight), saponins, phenols, tannins,
amino acids and mucilage. |
